Festival season has begun and there are plenty of beer events coming up across the country. Some of the biggest, such as Beer Advocate's Night of the Funk, their Belgian Beer Fest, and Surly Brewing's Surlyfest, are already sold out, but there are plenty of other exciting brewfests coming up throughout the month of September.
This certainly isn't an exhaustive list but, if travel time and budget weren't an issue, these are the events where we'd be drinking beer in the next month.
Drink Philly's Phestiv-Ale Philadelphia, PA Sample more than 50 beers from local favorites including Yards, Dock Street, and Victory, as well as far away breweries like Allagash, Bell's, and Stone. Proceeds go toward cystic fibrosis research. Event website.
Peter Reeves Memorial Sourfest Churchill's Pub & Grille, San Marcos CA Donates a portion of proceed to cancer research. Dozens of sours including 8 Cascade sours on draft and Churchill's Finest Sour from Lost Abbey, a sour ale aged with Brett and Guava in Chardonnay barrels for two years. A portion of the proceeds go to cancer research. Event website.
Schlafly Hop in the City St. Louis, MO The 14th annual Hop in the City brings together unlimited samples of more than 40 different Schlafly beers, food and live music for the brewery's biggest party of the year. This year's festival beer is a pumpkin stout. Event website.
18th Annual California Brewers Festival Sacramento, CA Breweries across California including Firestone-Walker, 21st Amendment, Lagunitas, and the country as well as live entertainment and food vendors will gather at Discovery Park in Sacramento for this festival. Proceeds go to local charities. Event website.
Pints for Prostates Oktoberfest for a Cure Barcade, Jersey City, NJ Sip on a number of hard-to-find brews, including Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and Barcade will donate a buck for every pint to prostate cancer research. Guests can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a nine-night trip for two to go brewery-hopping in Belgium, Holland, and Germany. More info.
Hill Farmstead 2012 Harvest Festival Greensboro, VT Trek on up to middle-of-nowhere Vermont for a slew of Hill Farmstead beers, live music, local food, and camping. Also expect beers from Hill Farmstead friends to round out the event. Event website.
Oktoberfest Zinzinnati USA Cincinnati, OH First held in 1996, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the U.S. and the second largest in the world. Over half a million people attend every year to get their fill of lagers, glockenspiels, and the third annual World Bratwurst Eating Contest. The celebration takes place September 22nd and 23rd. Where the Wild Beers Are Republic, Minneapolis, MN This annual collaborative festival is one of the bigger bottle shares celebrating wild, sour, and farmhouse ales you'll come across. One or more bottles of beer to share and $10 gets you in the door and access to a bottle list created by the participants. The WTWBA crew also holds tastings in Brooklyn, and the next will be in Spring 2013. Event website.
Down the Road: October 6th
The Village Voice's Brooklyn Pour 2012 Brooklyn, NY Try over 100 different beers from breweries in NYC and beyond in the gorgeous Skylight One Hanson building. The focus is on breweries from the tri-state area, but there'll be beers from across the country. Event website.
