As the humidity begins to rise, the frozen not-quite-milkshake-not-quite-iced-coffee concoctions from Starbucks get a little more appealing, and they have two new offerings as of yesterday: the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino and the Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino.
The Mocha-cookie version starts with a coffee base, mocha sauce, milk, vanilla syrup, 'Frappuccino chips' and ice, and it's topped with a mild cocoa whipped cream and chocolate cookie crumbles. If you're a coffee lover, this sweet stuff isn't going to get you going—you can barely detect anything related to coffee in the flavor. But the slight hint of java does cut the simple sweetness a bit, and as a whole this is a nice afternoon treat if you like your coffee light, sweet, and milk-chocolaty.
The milky Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino doesn't have any coffee in it, which means it's a bit sweeter than the Mocha version. The chocolate whipped cream topped with a shower of dark chocolate cookie crumbles may be the highlight of this drink (though chocolate whipped cream doesn't make for a particularly photogenic concoction.) We never really understood these non-coffee Frappuccinos (what's the point?) but we'll happily drink almost anything icy these days.
