When you're hungover, it's easy to get confused. Where did I park my car? Why did I get a replica tattoo of Petunia, the enchanting inktress from Nickelodeon's Adventures of Pete & Pete? Well, I can confidently say that exactly none of these questions will be answered in the following paragraphs. But I will say this: the breakfast bäco at downtown's Bäco Mercat is easily one of the best Hangover Helpers in Los Angeles.

If you're still confused when the breakfast bäco shows up at your table, you're not alone. Part flatbread, part pita, part gigantic breakfast taco, the Saturday-only breakfast bäco ($9) is an amalgamation of all things necessary to fix your foggy brain.

Warm, soft chunks of scrambled egg mix with juicy morsels of deep red chorizo, the sort of morning staples that play well south of the border. The creamy orange sauce tastes almost Mediterranean, but with the unmistakable Sriracha heat that Southern California has come to embrace.

The flatbread itself is from another dimension, where chef Josef Centeno rules over grains and makes them his tasty sandwich slaves. Warm, soft and slightly crisped, the wrapped bread provides the perfect brake pedal to a sandwich that's otherwise just a little bit out of control. You can't stop the breakfast bäco, or even provide an accurate description to the police sketch artist. You can only hope to contain it in delicious flatbread.

I feel like I should mention again that the breakfast bäco is only available on Saturdays, from 9am until 2:30pm. But you're only drinking on Friday nights, right guys? So it's not a big deal? Whew, good. I thought I was confused there for a second.
