Spoetzl Brewery of Shiner, Texas, has never offered a pale ale before, but recently released the first in their 103-year history. In fact, Wild Hare is the very first brew they've released that's made with ale yeast and the ale process.
The copper-colored beer is made with Munich and caramel malts and US Golding and Bravo hops. It's a grainy beer full of slightly sweet malt flavors—this isn't a super-crisp, biting brew. It's pretty mouthfilling, with hints of graham crackers. The hops lean toward earthy, slightly floral and orangey flavors, which should make it a good complement to food—there's nothing overpowering here. We'd pair this malt-forward brew with chili and cornbread, barbecue, or Indian curries.
