As long as you're not too hung over to face the light, The Monterey's sunny side patio is a wonderful place to spend a weekend morning/afternoon. The restaurant, which is in an old converted Sunglo gas station, also serves up what to need to ease your way into the day.
Their fried green tomatoes ($10.50) are marinated in Cajun spices, then dipped in buttermilk and breadcrumbs on their way to getting toasty and crisp. The tangy tomatoes are topped with fried eggs (perfect for those who like runny yolks) and Crystal hot sauce-spiked hollandaise. The plate balances creamy richness with enough punch to wake you up—a little Counter Culture coffee will help with that, too.
