Sixpoint's Mad Scientist line is a limited-run series of experimental beers the brewery releases once every two months. The series gives Sixpoint's brewers a chance to unleash some of their wilder notions on the public. The beers often incorporate unusual ingredients or techniques and usually fall well outside the lines of traditional styles.
The night's line-up included:
- Mad Scientist #3 Doppel Sticke Lager: a big, amber german lager with a kick
- Mad Scientist #4 Hibiscus Ale: a light-bodied, blush Belgian ale with a tart fruitiness
- Mad Scientist #5 Belgian Golden Ale with shiso: a dry Belgian ale with a minty finish
- Mad Scientist #6 Wet- and Dry-Hopped IPA: a floral and fruity IPA with locally grown hops
It was a rare opportunity to try so many of the beers together in one setting, and Parks and Sixpoint's Jeff Gorlechen were both on hand to guide guests through each course. For us, the evening peaked in the third course, with a deeply satisfying short rib cannelloni paired with Sixpoint's high-octane Doppel Sticke Lager.
