New Drinks: Naked Juice Reduced Calorie Smoothies

I'm usually a bit wary of bottled smoothies: too thick, too sweet, too sludgy. Generally a waste of calories unless I'm truly intent on filling my system with vitamins. But we were all really impressed with the new coconut-water enhanced Reduced Calorie Lychee juice, which is thinner than most of the NakedJuice offerings (but not watered-down tasting) and full of bright, fresh fruit flavor. The lychee flavor is present but not overpowering, and mango juice shares the stage nicely. At around 200 calories a bottle, it's still not exactly low-cal, but we'd be happy drinking a splash of it in seltzer (or using it as the base for a rum cocktail.)

Unfortunately, we weren't as wild about the other new offerings. The Citrus Lemongrass juice tastes a bit minty, like brushing your teeth after drinking your morning OJ. It's refreshing but a little bizarre.

And while the Mango Veggie smoothie had a few fans among our group, others found this thick concoction just too much like baby food. (It's tricky to put sweet potato and chickpeas in a smoothie.)

Have you tried these new drinks?

Around $3.29 per bottle, sample provided for review.
