The milkshake is such a perfect blend of drink and dessert—it provides the ideal excuse for having ice cream before dinner (or breakfast, or lunch, as the case may be). Since San Francisco is a town that knows its ice cream, we knew that we could count on finding some seriously delicious shakes. And oh, we did. While I'm an avowed lover of the no-frills, old school diner shake (of which the Bay Area has a stellar selection), I found myself blown away by the deliciousness of some decidedly crazier combinations. Avocado? Brownie? Pie? I'm here to say that done right, they all make for excellent milkshakes. But whatever your inclination, wherever in the Bay you may roam, you can be sure to find some seriously good shakes.
