July is riesling month! We're drinking it all month long...and maybe longer. Got a favorite riesling? Recommend it in the comments!
From the steep slopes of the Mosel. At first sip, this wine smacks you on the lips a bit: "Do you like acid? Then I'll give you acid..." It's a frenetic wine, with an electric buzz of lime, fresh hot ginger, zingy like a super-tart margarita (or a 9-volt battery.)
But this tangy, thirst quenching wine isn't just for acid hounds. Underneath the tart knife, there's asian pear and a rushing stream of cold powdery mineral water, muddled peach and mint. We didn't give the power of the slate presence enough credit at first, but when your palate gets accustomed to the acidity, the rocks are there, waiting just beneath the surface.
This wine shines with food, singing through earthier dishes like chow fun and moo shu pork, but bright and fresh enough to hold its own against spicy Sichuan food as well. It's easy drinking at 11.5% ABV, and gone too soon.
