What's Brewing at Sixpoint for Beer for Beasts

On Saturday March 26, BeerAdvocate and Sixpoint Craft Ales are throwing Beer for Beasts, a benefit event for the The Humane Society of New York City. There will be food from Calexico, Mile End, Pizza Moto, Prime Meats, and Brooklyn Soda Works, but we're really excited for the beers—at least thirteen brand new beers dreamed up just for this event. Each staff member is spearheading their own brew, in addition to a few collaborative efforts. Chef Willy Prunty of Prime Meats even joined the group to brew a special Beer for Beasts saison.

We asked our friends at Sixpoint to fill us in on what's in the fermenters so far.

Sean Redmond (Assistant Brewer): "I will brew an Alt, the ale native to Germany. Reddish copper, full bodied yet quaffable, malt centric with an abrupt finish. My second beer will be an Imperial IPA: light and dry, touch of booze with resinous dank hop flavor, pungent aroma. 6 different hop varieties will be added every ten minutes throughout a sixty minute boil."

Ian McConnell: "Imperial red ale with smoked paprika. Originally entitled 'The Red Viper', but 'Crimson Courser' sounded like a much more pet-friendly beast."

Jeff Gorlechen (Promotions): "Macbeast: It will be a Scotch Ale of some sort!"

Shane Welch (President/Brewmaster): "I'm making collaboration beers with just about everyone. I am doing one solo though: it's going to be my American Funk Ale. It's single malt pale ale, aged in oak barrels and inoculated with two different types of wild yeast. Our own proprietary funk blend!"

Sam Carroll (Apprentice Brewer): "1st beer: "Scotch on Scotch Ale": Peat smoked ale aged on single malt Scotch. 2nd beer: a double IPA with Cascade, Horizon, and Citra hops."

Jersey Dan (Philadelphia Brand Rep): "My creation, which is called Easy Morning Rebel, is a low-ABV saison/wit featuring fresh citrus juice and subtle spice. My inspiration comes from my love for Latin flavors, specifically the restaurants we service that are owned/operated by Iron Chef Jose Garces & the taquerias I frequent in my South Philadelphia neighborhood. This beer will hopefully be as flavorful as it is refreshing."
