Oat milk. It's in the same non-dairy family as rice milk, almond milk, and cashew milk. But how exactly is it made? How does one milk an oat? Is everyone just picturing a cartoon diagram of oats being squeezed?
'nondairy milk' on Serious Eats
OMilk's latest flavor: coffee milk (only available via delivery for now). It starts with a super-strong batch of cold brew extract, which gets a pour of their fresh almond milk and a touch of raw agave nectar swirled in. It's one part coffee to three parts milk, so it's strong enough to drink on its own though you could always up the caffeine by pouring it over a fresh-brewed cup (yes, coffee on coffee).
Doughnut Plant is first and foremost about the doughnuts. No argument there. But they also have an in-house line of liquid concoctions to created to accompany those fine cake and yeast creations. Their hot chai is one of my favorite liquid desserts in the city, already sweetened and with a good dose of cream and milk. They also offer agua fresca in rotating flavors like watermelon, pineapple, and cantaloupe. But of all their drinks, the ones I'm most enamored with are the nut milks.
