A tangy peach smoothie with a hit of ginger and maple syrup, inspired by the flavors of summer fruit desserts.
'kefir' on Serious Eats
We'll be sharing a new smoothie or juice recipe every weekday this month, but I figured I'd start easy: this recipe has just three ingredients. The key: unsweetened kefir, which you can get in the dairy aisle of your grocery store.
The unusual pairing was a natural extension of Dr. Kefir founder Brian Lovejoy's own drink-curiosity. "I'm an experimenter so I try to ferment everything I love," says Lovejoy. Hopefully that does not extend to family, friends and pets—but it did extend to coffee.
Some people refer to kefir as 'runny yogurt', but this fermented milk drink might actually have more in common with kombucha. Although the rich, sour drink is strangely addictive on its own, kefir also makes a perfect tart background for both sweet and savory smoothies. Get your blender ready!
