Even though it's dark and gray and full of false starts, January makes me happy. That's because every January, I find myself ahead of the curve, just by staying where I am. Suddenly—if fleetingly—everyone's into what I'm into. My yoga studio bursts at the seams. Vegetables move to the center of the plate. And two years running, the Williams-Sonoma catalog has featured jewel-colored juices on its January cover. Green juice is trending, people. It's pouring out of Mason jars and splashing all over Instagram. Hashtag world domination. At least until February.

The thing about trending is it happens fast. To be ahead of the curve is not to stay ahead of the curve. To stay ahead, you need a little creativity. Like swapping apple for pear for impossibly crisp, juicy Asian pear. And making an herb your leafy green of choice. This juice combines the delicate, floral sweetness of Asian pear with sophisticated, complex basil and a generous splash of bright, tart lemon. A little bit of celery brings it all together for a smooth finish. It's interesting without being too crazy, as evidenced by the fact that my two pre-teen taste testers not only didn't roll their eyes at it but seemed to genuinely enjoy it.

Although...maybe they enjoyed it a little extra because it's trending. Hashtag obviously.
