Back to school season got you down? I have a feeling these recipes might help: eight different ideas for homemade milkshakes, easy to whip up for dessert or an after-school snack. I figure you can probably handle a standard chocolate or vanilla shake on your own, so these milkshakes are a little untraditional when it comes to flavors and ingredients.

Strawberry Mascarpone Shake

There's nothing wrong with a traditional strawberry shake, but berries truly shine with a bit of rich, tangy mascarpone and the seeds scraped from a vanilla bean. If you froze strawberries at the peak of the season, they'll find a happy home in this recipe. There's no need to defrost 'em first.

Maple Bacon Shake

If you're sick of bacon-everything, pass this one by, but if you have a weakness for the sweet-savory-salty mix, this shake might be right up your alley. The bacon flavor in this shake recipe comes from rendered bacon instead of meaty little pieces which might get a little bizarre texturally when mixed with ice cream. Grade B maple syrup adds a rich, earthy sweetness.
