The Best Beers We Tried at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2013
The craft beer community descended on Cooperstown, New York this past weekend for Brewery Ommegang's annual Belgium Comes to Cooperstown festival. Now in its eleventh year, this Belgian-inspired beer event is revered as one of the best in the country.
Belgium Comes to Cooperstown is an opportunity to sample rare and one-off beers from some of the world's best brewers on Ommegang's expansive estate (formerly a hop farm) in upstate New York. But the true draw of BCTC is its true festival feel, including onsite camping for 3000+ beer fans, live bands through the night, and a massive late night bonfire. It is these "extra-curricular" activities—and the community of beer lovers they unite—that truly sets BCTC apart.
There were quite a few changes at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown this year. Most noticeable on the grounds were the addition of new hop trellises, a new massive Ferris wheel, and an art competition. Under the tents, however, its was business as usual as the brewers brought their best and brightest to share. Wild fermented and sour beers ruled the day but it was also refreshing to see a fair amount of stellar session beers. Click through the slideshow to get a peek at the best stuff we tasted »
