The dreaded Champagne hangover. The classier cousin to your regular weekend beer headaches, the Champagne hangover is a gussied up, bubbly affair—but still packs an unforgiving next-day punch. It's a wedding tux with a tapenade stain on it, because you fell into the tapas bar while dancing the Funky Chicken. When you encounter the mysterious upscale hangover, you need something equally refined to fight back, but with the same essential backbone of grease, cheese, and eggs that are the staples of everyone's hangover cure.

Mar'sel is tucked into the Terranea resport in Rancho Palos Verdes, which clings to the cliffs of Los Angeles' South Bay. But don't worry if you couldn't swing a night at the swanky palace, Mar'sel is open to all for lunch, brunch, and dinner. You don't even have to make a reservation if you don't want to.

There are blueberry ricotta pancakes ($16) to soothe you, served in a pillowy stack with lemon curd and a blueberry compote. You can break the bank for a $38 plate of steak and eggs, a meaty slab of farm-raised hanger steak with some yolky toad-in-the-hole action off to the side. But what you really need to find a plate of, when you're stumbling from your room wearing the same pleated chinos from the night before, is the Green Eggs and Ham ($18).

Served on a thick slice of bread that's been buttered and grilled, this Seussian dish is the perfect mix of cheese, egg, butter, pork, and heat to offset last night's uncalled for bottle-popping. If you've got any dignity left, reach for the silverware to cut this perfect brunch stack into manageable bites. That way, the warm and runny yolk can mix in with the fried pork belly like some sort of barnyard paperback romance novel.

The salsa verde is vibrant and fresh, and somewhere on your rectangular plate is a fistful of house made potato chips. Or, if you prefer, a lightly dressed salad, a quiet reminder of your upscale surroundings. After all, once you've picked your head up off the table, you'll realize that you've been sitting patio side at the edge of America, looking over the wash of ocean that stretches out past the horizon. You might be using your sleeve as a napkin because of last night's Champagne problem, but the Green Eggs and Ham from Mar'sel at the Terranea resort will have you leaving like the gentleman you were the night before.
