TNT Bar, nestled in the back of the Arlington location of Eamonn's, is cocktail maven Todd Thrasher's latest addition to the expanding EatGoodFood empire. Better known for his Alexandria speakeasy, PX, which is located above the original Eamonn's, Thrasher has taken a different approach with the rock and roll themed TNT Bar. Less about the intimate affair of a high end speakeasy, TNT takes a more bombastic approach—the menu is comprised of cocktails inspired by classic rock songs and a "Road Trip" section of drinks borrowed from Thrasher's friends across the country.
The marble bar encircles the spacious workstation so every seat offers an excellent view of the cocktail-making in action. Many of the drinks pay homage to a particular band or song. The name for the Metal Surrenders When Oak Trees Meet Fenders ($11), for example, was plucked from lyrics in an Avett Brothers song about drinking and driving and a missing bottle of bourbon. The cocktail is made with bourbon, peach liqueur, sorghum pine cone water—flavored with pinecones from Thrasher's front yard—and peach bitters.
The Road Trip portion of the menu gathers favorite drinks from Thrasher's bartender friends across the country. Thrasher is partial to spicy cocktails, and recommends the Curly and The Turk ($11), created by Tad Carducci of The Tippler in New York—it's essentially an alcoholic snow cone made with crushed ice, gin, blue Curaçao, and a red chile-hibiscus syrup.
