Watching the old-school fountain drinks come to life is half of the fun of visiting Portland Penny Diner. The Portland Egg Cream is a frothy, herbal, chocolaty concoction comprised of Fernet Branca, chocolate syrup, cream, and soda.
Coin Flip ($7)
The Coin Flip is Brandon Wise's take on a flip, which traditionally includes spirits such as rum and brandy, egg, sugar, and nutmeg. Wise adds cream and sherry to the mix, aiming for a luscious winter cocktail with a touch of spice.
Montauk Riding Club Cocktail ($8)
This drink dates back to 1937, and includes brandy, Calisaya herbal liqueur, and orange bitters, along with the tangy zing of acid phosphate, a classic soda fountain ingredient.
Italian Soda ($7)
In this tongue-in-cheek nod to a classic Italian soda, Wise adds bitter Campari along with Curacao, a housemade orange syrup, and a little cream to soda water.
Strawberry Fizz ($2.75)
A rosy hue results when soda water is mixed with house-made strawberry syrup in this non-alcoholic option. Soda flavors will rotate based on seasonally available fruits.
