Our 10 Favorite Sips from Portland Cocktail Week
Last week's Portland Cocktail Week brought bartenders together to swap stories, share recipes, make connections, and shake up hundreds of cocktails. Bartenders from around the country used Portland's iconic Jupiter Hotel as their "dorm" and took classes at the nearby Kennedy School. Hot topics in the curriculum included demystifying vermouth, modernist techniques for the cocktail bar, and 'It's Not The Size of Your Barrels, It's How You Use Them.'
There was a packed schedule of official events and a number of pop-up fetes at local bars looking to keep the party going when class was out. The sheer number of drinks being served was simply dizzying; it's a miracle that anyone made it out with an intact liver. Of the dozens of cocktails we sampled at PDX Cocktail Week, here are 10 that stood out as both unique and delicious.
