Slideshow: Ask A Bartender: Most Memorable Regulars

'Mixology Bro'
'Mixology Bro'
"We have one regular who we call 'Mixology Bro.' He's a big Persian dude, always wearing flashy piped shirts and his hair slicked back. He comes in and says, 'Bro, I love mixology bar. Make me mixology, bro!' Larger than life and a really nice guy." —Mike Ryan (Sable)

'Hollywood'
"My favorite regular of all time was a guy named Hollywood when I was working at Jake's Dilemma in NYC. Years before he became the unofficial mayor of the Upper West Side, he was a tunnel rat in Vietnam. He'd since been in and out of Bellevue, and was somewhere between living with his sister and sleeping on the street. But every bartender, every customer that drank at any of the bars on Amsterdam between 76th and 84th knew and loved him. One year, I was stuck working Christmas Eve and when he came in at 4pm he was outraged to see that we didn't have a Christmas tree. An hour later, he dragged a tree in from God knows where, completely decorated, plugged it in and said, 'Now we can have Christmas.' He was a good one." —Molly Prather (Little Dom's)

"My most memorable regular(s) were this old married couple named Marty and Dora. They fought constantly but in a hilarious sort of way that was slightly endearing. They were a music duo that played in a hotel lounge up the street from where I worked." —James Romer (Wirtshaus)
Write Me In
Write Me In
"I work in a local pub, so there are a lot of memorable characters. One that stands out is a writer who is a little wacky in all of the right ways. Loves to drink, loves to talk, loves to tip. He came into the bar one day with a book he had written, and I was in the first scene! That was pretty cool." — Laura Cullen (Clarke's)

"A gentleman by the name of Gary Lloyd has to be the most memorable. He's dined at my bar close to 200 times (no exaggeration) and is notable for his iPad and limericks. Mark Lynn-Baker was a regular of mine, too, for a while (yes, Cousin Larry)." — Jeff "Chewy" Chouinard (Lincoln Ristorante)
Regular Happenings
Regular Happenings
"It's hard to pick out one most memorable regular with all of the years that I have been in a bar… But I would say the most memorable recurring event that I see is people meeting up in my bar for affairs, that they mask terribly. Lady or gentleman comes in, wedding ring on, and say they are meeting a friend here and this place was the halfway point for each of them. Opposite sex 'friend' comes in, also with a wedding ring on; they both get a drink from the bar and then retire to a dark corner and are clearly more than friends. I have seen this more times than I can count." —Hector Santa Cruz (Neat, Bow & Truss)
