The abundance of cider festivals coming up this fall is a clear sign that America's "cider revolution" is in full swing. From inaugural events in Virginia and the Finger Lakes, to tried and true celebrations in Michigan and Massachusetts, here are a few events across the country serving up a crash course in our favorite apple tipple.

Washington Cider Week

September 8th to 16th

The greater Seattle area celebrates ciders of the Pacific Northwest with their annual Washington Cider Week. The centerpiece of the week is Seattle's Cider Summit NW at South Lake Union Discovery Center Park on Saturday, September 8th with tastings of craft ciders from around the world. The week continues with over 85 tap takeovers, cider pairings, and events with special cider-based cocktails. Event website

Great Lakes Cider & Perry Festival

September 8th

The midwest's largest cider festival features more than 100 different ciders from the Great Lakes region. Held annually at Uncle John's Cider Mill in St. Johns, Michigan, $15 gets you entry into the festival, a commemorative glass, and 10 sample pours with more available for purchase. The event takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Event website

Finger Lakes Cider Week

September 28th to October 8th

The newly formed Finger Lakes Cider Alliance launches its inaugural cider week to celebrate and promote local and regional hard ciders and orchards. The week is full of educational and culinary events including orchard and cidery tours, lectures, menu pairings, cider flights, cidermaker dinners and more. Event website

New York Cider Week

October 12th to 21st

The second annual New York Cider Week celebrates one of the country's most prominent apple growing regions with a week of classes, tastings, events, and special menus throughout NYC and the Hudson Valley. The main event, a "Cider Revival" at NYC's New Amsterdam Market takes place Sunday, October 14th, where visitors will be able to sample a wide variety of ciders from the region's producers. Later in the week, Astor Wines hosts Applepalooza, a festive, walk-around tasting featuring scads of ciders along with a selection of apple and pear-based spirits both in their natural form and used in cocktails. Franklin County Cider Days

November 3rd and 4th

Now in its 18th year, Cider Days in Franklin County, Massachusetts is the nation's premier cider celebration. The highlight of the weekend is the Cider Salon where visitors will be able to taste some of the country's best ciders including many that are regularly unavailable on the East coast. The salon is followed by a fall locavore dinner as well as heritage apple tastings, ice cider tastings, and a cider making 101 workshop on Sunday. Tickets are on sale now. Event website

Virginia Cider Week

November 9th to 18th

Connecting Southern cider makers with cider lovers, Virginia launches its first cider week this November. The festivities kick off with a cider feast on Friday, November 9th where farmer Gary Nabhan—a MacArthur Genius Grant winner—will present a selection of farm to table cider and food pairings. The week continues with tastings, pairings, and education for producers and enthusiasts alike including a special North/South cider smackdown hosted by yours truly! Event website
