Fort George Sunrise OPA
OPA stands for Oatmeal Pale Ale—a beer my oatmeal-loving co-editor couldn't help but fall in love with. This super-dry brew is made in Astoria, Oregon, a coastal destination we're excited to visit later this week.
Adam Robinson's Western Front
Adam Robinson of the Rum Club poured a delicious and impressively aromatic Negroni variation featuring Bonal, Hendrick's Gin, and Campari (with gomme syrup and a bit of orange flower water.) He stirred this mixture with a broken up kaffir lime leaf.
Beers from The Commons Brewery
These brews were the ideal accompaniment for the mostly-Asian offerings of Feast's Night Market event. We especially enjoyed the lightly tart Flemish Kiss, which had a nice rustic bretty edge.
Mayan Mint Julep
New Deal Distillery used this cocktail to showcase their Mud Puddle vodka (made with cacao nibs) and their Hot Monkey vodka, a spicy chili spirit.
Ariana Vitale's Against the Grain
At the Sandwich Invitational, Ariana Vitale of Kask and Riffle NW offered this supple and rich cocktail made with toasted barley syrup, Tullamore Dew, sherry, and orange bitters.
A Pear's Big Bottom
This fall cocktail from Big Bottom Whiskey is easy to make at home: in an ice-filled shaker, mix 2 ounces whiskey with 3 ounces pear cider and half an ounce fresh lime juice. Shake well, pour into an ice-filled glass, top with ginger beer (about 2 ounces) and a pear slice.
The Cooper Union from Emily Baker
At the Feast Night Market, Emily Baker, who works with St. Germain, used the elderflower liqueur in a smoky Scotch cocktail lightened with lemon juice and orange bitters.
A Beer Cocktail from Rogue
Rogue has both a brewery and a distillery, and they were brought together in this tasty beer cocktail, made with Rogue Spruce Gin, Rogue Juniper Pale Ale, fresh grapefruit juice, and a little sugar.
Fresh Hop Mirror Pond
At the Oregon Bounty tasting, Deschutes offered the first fresh-hop beer I've tasted this year, made with heritage Cascade hops grown in Silverton. (About 200 pounds of fresh hops were picked in the morning and used in the afternoon brew at the Portland Deschutes pub.)
10 Barrel ISA
We love 10 Barrel Brewing Company's refreshing India Session Ale, which was served at the Oregon Bounty tasting. It clocks in at 5.5% ABV and has loads of citrusy hops.
Douglas Derrick's Deliquent
At the Sandwich Invitational, Douglas Derrick of Nostrana offered an easy-drinking Stoli-based cocktail with orange juice, Sanbitter soda, and Chinotto soda.
Summer's Bounty from Mike Lorberbaum
At the Night Market, Mike Lorberbaum of Nostrana made this fruity Stoli cocktail with honeydew, peaches, and riesling syrup, along with a hit of Aperol to add a tinge of bitterness.
