Video: How to Make An Old Fashioned

The Serious Eats crew has been known to cut out of work early for "meetings" at Ward III, the Tribeca bar co-owned by Behind the Bar columnist Michael Neff. We recently spent a whole afternoon there asking Michael about a few of our favorite classic cocktails, and we caught the whole thing on video.—The Mgmt.

We wanted to brush up on our bartending skills, so we asked New York bartender Michael Neff to show us his methods behind making some of the essential drinks. (Plus, we might borrow his mini history lessons to spice up our barside banter/street cred.)

Today, we're learning about one of the oldest cocktails in the books, the Old Fashioned. It seems that Mark Twain might have been a fan. Come join us for a round—this one's on the house.

We know a few folks who use the Old Fashioned as the way to measure the quality of a bar. Do you ever order an Old Fashioned? Do you make them at home? What's your method?
