Hangover Helper: Pinnacles Scramble at Greens, San Francisco

An upscale vegetarian restaurant isn't necessarily the first place you'd think to go to cure your hangover. Yet the brunch menu at Greens in San Francisco is filled with hearty (if healthy) plates of food that are fresh enough to perk up even the most downtrodden palate.

Take the Pinnacles Scramble ($15). It's a lighter variation on chilaquiles: Scrambled eggs are topped with with a duo of tomatillo and fire roasted salsas. The dish gets heat from spicy, fried yellow Finn potatoes as well as poblano and chipotle chilies. Part of the plate is devoted to a mound of chili made with Rancho Gordo beans. The chili is nicely toothsome while staying loose enough to mix up into the eggs. Scallions and cilantro add some freshness, while cheddar cheese and creme fraiche add a much appreciated richness. The whole dish is served over a corn tortilla that doesn't lose anything by not being fried.

Each bite of this scramble is a sloppy mix of eggs, salsa, beans, tortilla, and herbs. It's got all the goods to cure your hangover, but it's fresh and healthy enough that it won't leave you feeling worse than when you started.
