Dick's Pizza and Pleasure feels a bit schizophrenic. It's a super sleek, Anime-clad space that serves coal-fired pizza downstairs, is a club and lounge upstairs, and also happens to make more than a dozen different kinds of shakes. What's not confused, however, is how awesome those shakes are.
By far the weirdest of the bunch is the Pig Pageant ($7), crowned with house-made candied bacon that's coated in a thin layer of crystallized sugar. It may sound like a gimmick, but the blend of vanilla ice cream, house-made chocolate sauce, and brownie with the salty bacon accent made for a delicious, lightly chocolatey shake. The brownie was incredibly dense, more chocolate truffle than cake.
If you're a peanut butter lover, then the Lightning Rod shake ($7) is for you. They're not kidding about the peanut butter—there's so much of it in this shake that you might miss the chocolate sauce and the malt. The pretzel rod garnish is a welcome savory foil.
Since Dick's is a dance club every weekend, it makes sense that they offer alcoholic shakes too. The Muffin Top ($8) is made with vanilla ice cream, Chambord, house-made blackberry compote, and mascarpone. It's served with a dunkable shortbread cookie. The light addition of alcohol enhances the fresh blackberry flavor of the drink, and mascarpone adds a pleasant balancing tang, ensuring that the drink isn't too sweet.
