Cool Drinks, NY: Watermelon-Tea Boba at Spot Dessert Bar

I've been on a watermelon kick all summer long. I've been devouring fresh watermelon juices all around the city, and watermelon sodas over at Smorgasburg. Before the season ends, stop by Spot Dessert Bar for their signature watermelon drink ($4.50) which couples fresh watermelon puree with a few Asian-inspired twists.

They blend the cut fruit with a brisk, iced black tea and turn it into a boba drink loaded with tapioca. Three things I love, all in one drink? It's as good as it sounds with the tea providing a bright undertone to the summer chill of fresh watermelon. It's barely sweetened, so you could almost call it a healthy drink. That is, before taking into account the generous scoop of perfectly cooked, just chewy enough, tapioca balls.

They also offer many other fruit and tea boba drinks, including an inventive (and delicious) blend of lychee and matcha, and another pairing calamansi with Thai tea, all served iced.
