This approachable Mosel wine goes for about $15, which isn't a bad deal. It works just fine with weeknight sushi or Thai food, adding a nice zip of lemon-rind acidity and a hint of classic flinty minerality.

This wine is pretty well balanced, crisp and round, not extreme in its flavors, but also not as complex as many of the rieslings we've tried. There's a hint of watermelon and apricot, and a minimum of slate, but it doesn't unfold much as you sip it; it's not a dynamic wine. If this was the only Mosel riesling we'd tasted, we might wonder what all the fuss was about.

Would we drink it? Sure. Would we seek it out again? Probably not.

Around $15, sample provided for review.
