Hot Drinks, NY: Chocolate Chai at Bosie Tea Parlor

At Bosie Tea Parlor, golden canisters line the wall with a selection of over 80 teas from the in-house tea line, L'Âge de Thé. Each pot is brewed to order, with prices ranging from $6 to $18 per pot. Tea connoisseurs will find plenty satisfaction with the Oolong and Darjeeling estate teas among many others. But this is not a place for snobbery—even the blends such as Chocolate Chai (pictured above) are treated with respect.
The Chocolate Chai is offered hot, iced, or latte-style—I prefer the latter especially when the weather calls for thunderstorms. Chocolate shards and black tea are mixed with a spice blend rich in cardamom, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. The result is a spicy drink, tamed and made rich with the addition of whole milk. Chocolate is as strong in the cup as it is in the aroma—it's a sophisticated twist to the classic cup of chai.
