Cookbook author Andrew Schloss has come up with a very viable solution to this carbonated conundrum—he suggests that we start making our own sodas. His new book, Homemade Soda, is
brimming with ideas for all sorts of creative sippers that go way beyond what you'd find on a supermarket shelf. Schloss has created fruity sparklers, home-makable recipes for colas and root beers, bubbly coffees and teas, digestion-aiding shrubs and drinking vinegars, and even a few self-carbonators like kombucha and cider.

All recipes in Homemade Soda have been adapted so that they can be mixed with seltzer, charged up with a siphon, or in come cases brewed to create natural bubbles.

For the next month we'll be forgoing the store bought stuff in favor of homemade sodas—mixing up our own version of Celtzer, that celery flavored Jewish deli classic, trying our hand at a Natural Cola, and mothering our very own Orange Kombucha.
