The numerous gelato flavors offered at any given time at Il Laboratorio del Gelato means that the milkshake possibilities are endless. Especially when you consider the fact that they allow you to mix up to four gelato flavors into a single milkshake.

I like to keep it clean and simple, going for one flavor at a time, albeit one of the more unusual flavors. Beet fans are bound to love the brightly colored (no worries, the color is all natural) Beet Milkshake ($6.50). The beet flavor is highly pronounced, simultaneously bold and sweet. Blended with whole milk, the milkshake is almost earthy in flavor, and you definitely wouldn't mistake it for any other fruit or vegetable once you taste it.

Il Laboratorio del Gelato call their drinks "thickshakes" but this one leans more toward the loose side, easily sippable through a thin straw. Though I wouldn't dare a malted beet milkshake, you may want to take them up on the offer to add malt powder (for $1) if you've ordered chocolate or peanut butter. Or chocolate-peanut butter.
