Spot of Tea: American Classic Black Tea
American Classic Tea has a distinct claim to fame: it's the only tea that is grown, not just blended, in the United States. The tea comes from the Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadmalaw Island in South Carolina. The sandy soil and sub-tropical climate of this area has lent itself to tea production for over one hundred years.
This isn't a fancy blend of spices and flowers, just straight black tea, but it's surprisingly full of flavor. It's earthy and mellow, with a very smooth texture and almost no bitterness. A longer steep reveals a fresh, woodsy flavor. We'd say it's a perfect pick-me-up, especially with a slice of pecan pie.
Available online; $6.95 for 12 teabags.
