Hot Drinks, NY: Kanlo's Soursop Tea
Kanlo quietly opened in a former art gallery in Tribeca in early January. This tiny tea and candle shop is minimalist, with just a few shelves displaying tins of loose leaf tea and scented candles. You can purchase any of their house teas by the cup for $1.75.
Bypass the ordinary flavors here—Kanlo's strength lies with more unusual offerings. The soursop tea is clean-flavored with a lemony aftertaste. Warm cups of Creme Brulee and Chocolate tea (with dark chocolate chips blended into the tea leaves) offer intoxicating, bold aromas, but drink up as light, delicate versions of the scent. Milk or sugar is available if you request it, but the owner urges you to have the tea plain and pure.
