I'm a certified Diet Coke fiend, but I'm gradually replacing my daily can with a glass bottle of Kombucha Brooklyn. Health reasons? That's a legitimate starting point, but I continued only because it tasted good; the barely sweet and light fizziness of the drink is decidedly addictive.
Start with their classic, the Straight Up, and then move on to the flavored kombuchas. My favorite is The Red Ginger. It's the original kombucha coupled with fresh pressed ginger juice and just enough strawberry puree for a hint of flavor. There's also a version flavored with concord grapes.
Keep an eye out for Kombucha Brooklyn at the New Amsterdam Market when the weather begins to warms up. That's where they often introduce new flavors as well as refilling growlers. They also sell a brew-your-own kombucha kit online.
