Coffee Chronicles: Café Grumpy LES Coming Soon

cafegrumpyLES-1.jpg

NYC coffee pacesetter Café Grumpy is growing again—despite repeated verbal reluctance to do just that. 2011 will see the Brooklyn-based roaster open their fourth cafe (and second Manhattan location), on the formerly underserved and soon-to-be-overserved Lower East Side, on Essex Street.

The company has taken over two storefronts, one of which is a former clothing boutique called Tucker, the other the Zelig torah shop. What will the cafe do with two sides? A secret annex? Laptop-only purgatory? We'll wait and see. In the meantime, visit one of their existing shops to enjoy the micro-lot Colombian coffees they purchased from the Lo Mejor de Monserrate competition -- they've procured the 6th, 2nd and 3rd place coffees from this delicious competition. (The second place, the citrusy fresh Hermes Tunubala, is my favorite.)
