Sugar Rush: Dammann Frères Tea

I first learned about Dammann Frères tea on a visit to Salume in Soho— it was the only brand of tea offered on their carefully crafted menu. Over time I began drinking my way through their selection, which includes Darjeeling and Lapsang Souchong, among others. The France-based tea company has been around since 1925, but just recently started selling their tea direct to the public a few years ago. Before that, the tea was found through hotels and restaurants alone.

My current favorites include the Peppermint (pictured above) from their herbal tea line—bright, fresh, and made with Moroccan mint leaves. The tea is sold loose or in bags of 25, packaged in their signature silky and gauze-like Cristal bags. I haven't been able to find a retail storefront that carries Dammann Frères in NYC, so I ordered them online from various sources including Amazon and the company's own website, with prices ranging from $12-15.
